Is fish eye the same as wide-angle?
Posted by Andris Runde
Fisheye lenses are very specific forms of wide-angle lens which can distort the image. Fisheye lenses produce images with a circular distortion and have been popularized by photographers who want to capture a lot of the environment in their shots.
Fisheyes are perspective lenses which create images with a wider field of view. The curvature of the lens creates shifted, distorted lines that make straight shapes look curved.
Wide-angle lenses are typically used for landscape and architecture photography. They are equally adept at capturing a vast amount of space in a single image as well as close-up detail.
